  • SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION - Congressional Black Caucus

Please pass this information on to graduating seniors,  full-time
undergraduate college students in good academic standing and/or their
parents.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth.  Thanks.

Primary Sponsor: Congressional Black Caucus Foundation
    Deadline: 3/1/2002
Established in 1986, the CBCF Congressional
Internship Program provides undergraduate students with an in-depth
orientation to Capitol Hill and the legislative process through actual
work experience in the offices of Congressional Black Caucus Members.

    The Program

The CBCF Congressional Internship Program is an intensive 8-week program
that occurs during the summer.  College undergraduates learn about the
legislative and administrative processes of Congressional offices while
performing a range of tasks specific to the functioning of their particular
offices. Interns have the opportunity to explore the many career options
relative to working with the U.S. Congress while also gaining valuable
experience and building foundations for careers as elected officials,
administrators, attorneys, political science researchers and professors, and
    other related fields.

    Educational / Cultural Enrichment

The intern's work experience is complemented with educational and cultural
enrichment activities. Each week, interns participate in round table
discussions with Congressional Black Caucus Members, federal government
officials and other public policy experts to gain insight on critical issues
    facing America.
Interns also participate in cultural enrichment activities which include
visits to national monuments, African American historical sites, museums,
art galleries, and embassies of African countries. CBCF also collaborates
with organizations such as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to
allow interns to network with other students with similar interests.

    Educational Requirements

    * Interns have the opportunity to develop leadership skills while
fulfilling the educational requirements of the program. Each intern is
responsible for maintaining a daily journal, writing and presenting a public
policy paper, and attending professional development workshops designed to
enhance their communication and analytical skills. Interns also receive
group assignments with the goal of encouraging team development.
    * Selection Criteria / Selection Process
CBCF Congressional Internships are open to graduating high school seniors
and full-time undergraduate college students in good academic standing.
Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in the legislative and public
policy process. The selection process for the CBCF Internship Program is
    highly competitive.
Candidates are selected based on scholastic achievement, demonstrated
leadership, interest in public policy, and community service contributions.
The staff of each CBC Member will initially review applications and will
contact promising candidates for further consideration and/or interviews.
Members of Congress make final selections and internship assignments.

    Program Dates for Summer 2002: June 1, 2002 - August 3, 2002

    Stipend:
Interns are provided with housing accommodations at a Washington, DC

Subject: Summer Opportunity at Harvard for African American, Hispanic, Native American College Juniors

We would like to request your help in identifying high potential African American, Hispanic American and Native American students for our Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP). This program seeks to expose talented minority college juniors to general management in the business world.

During one week in June, at no expense to the student, Harvard Business School hosts these talented college students and provides teaching instruction from leading faculty, on campus housing and different  seminars/events that introduce the students to business education.

These students are immersed in a rigorous and stimulating classroom environment that mirrors the learning environment of Harvard's MBA Program.

We encourage you to direct any interested students to the Summer Ventures in Management Program (SVMP) page on our web site:

    http://www.hbs.edu/mba/experience/meet/diversity/svmp_whocanpartic.cfm

Thank you for helping us invest in the future of these talented students.
