Committee On Government Operations Requests the Inspector General Charles C. Maddox to Resign
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 24, 2002 – Today, the
Committee on Government Operations passed a resolution, the “Committee on
Government Operations Vote of No Confidence in the Inspector General of the
District of Columbia Charles C. Maddox Resolution of 2002.” The resolution declares a vote of no
confidence in his ability to continue as the Inspector General of the District
of Columbia, and respectfully requests his resignation.
The resolution was introduced by Councilmember
Orange and approved unanimously by Councilmembers Orange, Schwartz and
Brazil. Councilmembers Patterson and
Ambrose, who are also members of the Committee were absent.
Councilmember Orange stated, “it is unfortunate that
the totality of events led the Committee to this action.”
On January 17, 2002, the Committee on Government Operations held an oversight hearing on the qualifications, term and residence of the Inspector General.
